El principal tema tratado en la conferencia será la contribución de las SmartGrids a la sostenibilidad en el campo de la energía, particularizando en la eficiencia energética y la integración de energías renovables. Con este propósito, el evento estará dividido en 3 bloques:

• Bloque I: Las Plataformas Tecnológicas Nacionales presentarán los casos relativos a los Estados Miembros, para aportar diferentes puntos de vista sobre los beneficios del despliegue de las SmartGrids, haciendo especial hincapié en los objetivos de la sostenibilidad y los beneficios para la sociedad. La sesión será moderada por la plataforma española de micro-redes, FutuRed.
• Bloque II: Acciones de I+D+D en las SmartGrids europeas. Esta sesión comenzará con una perspectiva de todos los proyectos e iniciativas relativas al campo europeo, gracias a la aportación del JRC de la Comisión Europea.
• Bloque III: El último bloque tratará sobre el futuro de las redes eléctricas, presentando las prioridades en investigación e innovación identificadas para 2020 y 2035, así como los mecanismos de apoyo previstos dentro de Horizon 2020.

El evento comenzará con la presentación de los co-organizadores, el proyecto GRID+, en nombre de la Iniciativa Europea de Redes Electricas (EEGI) y la Plataforma Europea sobre SmartGrids (ETP SmartGrids).

La EEGI es una de las Iniciativas Industriales Europeas bajo el Plan Tecnológico de Estrategia Energética (SET Plan), que propone un programa de investigación, desarrollo y demostración europeo con una duración de 9 años para acelerar la innovación y el desarrollo de las redes eléctricas del futuro de Europa.

La EEGI está apoyada por la acción GRID+, que actúa como el brazo ejecutivo de la iniciativa. La ETP SmartGrids aúna a los principales actores del sector de las redes eléctricas para definir una estrategia ayude a alcanzar los retos y oportunidades del siglo XXI. A diferencia de la EEGI, que tiene como horizonte 2020, la ETP SmartGrids mira hacia las necesidades de investigación e innovación para 2035.

For this purpose the event will be divided into 3 blocks. Block I: Member State cases will be introduced by National Technology Platforms in order to provide the audience with different points of view about the benefits of the deployment of the SmartGrids, specially with regard to energy sustainability objectives and benefits for society. The session will be moderated by the Spanish technology platform Futured. Block II:European smart grids R&D&D in action. This session will start with an overview of all projects and initiatives on the concerned field in Europe, provided by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. Showcases of European and national projects will follow. Block III: The last block will deal with the future of the electricity networks by presenting the R&I priorities identified for 2020 and 2035, as well as the support mechanisms foreseen within Horizon 2020. The event will open with the presentations of the co-organisers, the GRID+ Project on behalf of the European Electricity Grid Initiative (EEGI) and the European Technology Platform for Smart Grids (ETP SmartGrids). The EEGI is one of the European Industrial Initiatives under the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) which proposes a 9-year European research, development, and demonstration programme to accelerate innovation and the development of the electricity networks of the future in Europe. The EEGI is supported by the GRID+ action, which acts as an executive arm of the initiative. The ETP SmartGrids brings together key stakeholders from electricity networks sector to define a strategy to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. Unlike the EEGI, which has as horizon 2020, the ETP SmartGrids looks at the R&I needs for 2035.
