Description

The Higher Technical School of Engineering (ICAI) began its tradition of training engineers in 1908. Its study programme included Electromechanical Engineering studies. The ICAI is currently a polytechnic school offering qualifications in the fields of industrial engineering and computer engineering.

The Technology Research Institute (IIT) is a centre within the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ICAI) belonging to the Pontificia Comillas University. Its main aim is to promote research and train post-graduates in various technological fields by encouraging them to take part in specific projects of industrial and administrative relevance. The IIT’s vocation is to make a contribution to society by sharing the results of its research. In doing so, it observes the utmost respect for freedom and plurality of opinions among researchers and teachers, as demanding and independent experts.

Services offered
 
The use of ICAI laboratories is primarily for academic purposes in the engineering school, for both degrees and post degrees studies. Moreover, applied research pro- jects are also carried out in their facilities, as well as external essays.
 
On the other hand, the IIT offers research results trans- fer services in different areas: Engineering Design, Mo- delling, Analysis and Control, Sustainable Smart Grids, Regulation and Energy Economics, Decision Support Systems in the Energy Sector, Railway Systems, Smart Systems, Electronics and Automation.

During the academic year of 2011-2012, the research projects carried out by the ICAI’s Techno- logy Research Institute (IIT) covered the various fields of knowledge mentioned in the previous
point. The net income arising from those projects amounted to 5.95 million euros, divided among
the following:
  • 80 research projects
  • 24 consultancy projects
  • 12 training courses imparted in companies and other institutions
 
 

Future plans

The ICAI’s laboratories are constantly being updated in order to cover training and research needs. The IIT, in turn, caters for the true needs of the energy industry, meaning it too is permanently  up-to-date.
