Description

Electronic power DC/AC/DC converter for medium voltage. The converter includes an adjus- table DC source of 4 kV and 150 kW, fed by 400 V AC. That source feeds a three-phase in- vertor (DC/AC converter). The invertor has an NPC multilevel typology, using 3.2 kV IGBTs.
 
The equipment includes the DSP-based control system, for both the invertor mulation and the load control (i.e. current loops), as well as the protections needed.

Future plans

Currently there are several on-going research lines related to power electronic converters for medium voltage, including:
  • Use of WBG devices (SiC).
  • Multilevel topologies based on modular multilevel converters (MMC), with applications on multi-dock systems and solid-state transformers.
